Last night, during an evening that was far more enjoyable than I had imagined it would be, I made the very welcome discovery that other people are just as bad as I am at keeping up with all the things they intend to do; most notably, going to the theatre, and having proper catch ups with friends. Recently I have been very bold, and seen far less plays than I want or mean to, mostly for the horrendous reason that 'I don't quite get around to it'. BUT I intend to rectify the situation.
The secret seems to be working out what you want to see, and booking tickets before you can change your mind (or sit down with a cup of tea). There are some amazing plays on around Dublin, and it would be a shame to miss them - plus you too might decide that you should watch something, text a few friends, and end up enjoying the sort of random evening that you've been meaning to have for ages.
So if you're not sure where to start, here are a few suggestions:
ONE FOR A GOOD LAUGH (and a girls night out):
A 'Midnight Blue Romantic Comedy' that's more 'Sex and the City' than 'You've Got Mail' - Funny because you've either done it, or know someone who has. Almost as good for the hoots of laughter from the groups of women, as for the actual show.
ONE FOR MIND-BLOWING ENSEMBLE SHOWS (and great music):
This is the very show I saw last night that far exceeded my expectations, and blew my mind ... it's about friendship, love, aspirations; and the dangers of tequila!
Project Arts Centre (Upstairs), Until May 4th
ONE THAT'S COMING SOON (and you should book now):
When it was on in Dublin Fringe last year, this new show sold out before it's first performance. Inspired by the Stanford Prison Experiments of the 1970s; it's dark, creepy, and I get to interview writer Peter Dunne about it tomorrow ... hoorah!
Project Arts Centre (Cube) 30th April - 11th May.
ONE THAT'S EVEN BETTER THAN THE TITLE (and now on tour):
Nominated for the Fishamble New Writing Award and the Bewley's Little Gem Award in Fringe 2012, Solpadeine is My Boyfriend is a one woman show for our generation; full of emigration, insecurity, and laughing at things that shouldn't be funny, but are.
Currently on Tour - full details on solpadeineismyboyfriend.com
So go forth and see the things you've been meaning to see, and do the things you've been meaning to do - because the days are getting lighter and we don't really have the same excuses for hibernation anymore. You won't regret it!
